TERAJU’S Facilitation Fund Assists Sani United Berhad Increase Efficiency and Effectiveness of Public Transportation, Facilities & Services

4th June 2016, Klang – In line with the Eleventh Malaysia Plan to provide access to sufficient and affordable transportation, Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (TERAJU) today announced the granting of RM3.58 Million Facilitation Fund (FF) to Sani United Berhad (SUB)to expand the company’s current bus routes by adding 25 additional double-decker busses. The increase in the number of busses and route expansion is part of the strategy towards the improvement of public transport capacity and connectivity efforts.

The announcement was made at a mock-cheque handover ceremony held at SUB’s bus terminal in Meru, Klang today. A wholly owned Bumiputera company, SUB is one of the 323 companies selected by TERAJU to date, to receive the FF assistance. Presently, RM1.261 billion have been approved for 363 projects, to support Bumiputera private investments valued at RM10.47 billion.

The 25 new units of luxury busses introduced by SUB will help to expand trips made along existing routes, in line with consumer demands. This includes, additional 6 busses for Shah Alam – Rantau Panjang route, 4 new busses for Kota Bharu – Kuala Perlis route, 12 new busses for Klang – Kuala Terengganu route and 3 new busses for the Klang – Rantau Panjang route.

These new 48 seats, super VIP (2+1), air-conditioned double decker express busses are set to provide more comfortable, value for money travel for long-hours commuters. SUB will also make certain that these busses will undergo periodic inspections, to ensure that they remainin their best condition, for the safety of commuters.

According to Chief Executive Officer of TERAJU, Dato’ Husni Salleh, “The increased Sani United fleet supply funded by the FF will contribute towards the improvement of public transport capacity and connectivity. This is part of our effort to contribute towards the implementation of the Eleventh Malaysia Plan, providing access to sufficient and affordable (people-centric) transportation. The approach includes enhancing connectivity across transport modes and regions through greater connectivity, promoting public transport in both rural and urban areas and optimising transport planning. Another important consideration is improving safety, efficiency, and service levels of transport operations”.

Dato’ Husni added, “Sani United was chosen to receive the FF fund since their strategy to provide enhanced fleet functionalities posed a strategic value towards elevating the level of transportation service level among Bumiputera transportation operators. We hope that more Bumiputera companies will take advantage of the Facilitation Fund initiative and to actively participate in the development of transportation and infrastructure in the country.”

Sani United bus terminal is strategically located in Meru, Klang where it provides easy accessibility to Setia Alam, Bukit Raja, Kapar and the Klang City Centre. The 2- storey bus terminal features a waiting area, a surau including ticket counters and an outdoor food court area. The terminal also offers retail opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

The Facilitation Fund acts as a catalyst for private investment in strategic sectors with a minimum project value of RM2.5 million. At the same time, the fund also delivers additional incentives for companies seeking facilitation and assistance under TERAJU’s programmes.At present, TERAJU has approved RM48.987 million for 19 transportation projects worth RM333.611 million.

Sani United Berhad is a 100% Bumiputera Company incorporated in August 2003 focusing on transportation. By 2009, Sani United had expanded its business reach into hospitality, oil and gas, properties and development industries to meet various economic activities and market demands.

The event also saw Chief Executive Officer, Sani United, YBrs Encik Md Yusri Che Romli handing over donations to orphanages and selected Tahfiz schools, Madrasah Nur Tareem LilTahfizil Quran and Pusat Jagaan Nur Ekhwanku.
